RESEARCH STUDENTS

  • Danilo Barbuena (University of Campinas, Brazil).
    DSc student with research project on the evolution of the 3.3 Ga Mundo Novo greenstone belt, northern part of the São Francisco Craton, Bahia. This is so far the oldest greenstone belt in the craton; it contains pillowed basalts, felsic volcanics, BIFs, massive sulfides and clastic sedimentary rocks. A comprehensive study will be done to constrain tectonic setting, environmental conditions and tectonic evolution. The project gives strong emphasis on field observations, and sample collections for geochronology, major and trace element geochemistry, and isotope geochemistry.
  • Stéfano Zincone (University of Campinas, Brazil)
    DSc student with research project on the evolution of the Contendas-Mirante volcanic-sedimentary sequence, central part of the São Francisco Craton, previously interpreted as an Archaean volcanic-sedimentary sequence. The student will focus on field relationships, sediment provenance, U-Pb geochronology, whole-rock geochemistry, and isotope geochemistry.
  • Matheus Ancelmi (University of Campinas, Brazil).
    DSc student with research project on Archaean gneiss terrains of the Archaean Granjeiro Complex, Borborema Province (Ceará state).  He will look for changes in gneiss composition with time and their significance for Archaean terrains evolution.
  • Michelle Pitarello (University of Campinas, Brazil).
    Master student with research project on the geology and geochemistry of banded iron formations of the Archaean Granjeiro Complex, Borborema Province, Northeastern Brazil. The aim is to understand deposition conditions and likely tectonic setting.
  • Mauricio Rigoni Baldim (University of Campinas, Brazil)
    Master student with research project on an Archaean-Palaeoproterozoic gneiss dome at the collision zone between migmatite-gneiss complexes (3.0 Ga microcontinent?) of the Serrinha Block and the Palaeoproterozoic Rio Itapicuru Greenstone Belt (continental arc), northernmost São Francisco Craton. The student will combine field relationships with geochronology and geochemistry to understand how the dome has formed during the Palaeoproterozoic arc accretion.
  • Wellington Marchesin (University of Campinas, Brazil)
    Master student with research project on the ca. 3.3 Ga Serra dos Meiras gneiss dome, one of the basement domes associated with the Contendas-Mirante Archaean-Palaeoproterozoic volcanic-sedimentary sequence. The student will focus on the tectonic significance of the dome gneisses based on field geology, geochemistry, and geochronology.
