Detailed installation instructions for ArcSDM are included in the documentation. Therefore, install the documentation first as follows: 1. Create a folder called ArcSDM in the arcgis folder that is commonly created on your C drive when you installed ArcGIS. The exact location of this ArcSDM folder is not critical, but it is useful at C:\arcgis. 2. Extract the documentation from the documentation zip file into a folder called Documentation in ArcSDM. If you are using something like WinZip, note the relative path for the Documentation folder is stored in the zip file; so simply extract into the ArcSDM folder. 3. To start the documentation, search for SDMhome.htm in the documentation folder and double click it. This should start your internet browser with the cover page for the ArcSDM documentation. Click on Table of Contents and read the following sections of the documentation before proceeding. a. Installation – This outlines the installation process for installation on an XP computer. Be sure that ArcGIS has all of the available service packs installed before trying to use ArcSDM. b. If you are installing ArcSDM3 on ArcGIS9 on a Windows 2000 computer, see the instructions in the zip file ArcSDM3_Installation_Win2000.zip. Microsoft has apparently changed the available Setup.exe program so it is not backward compatible to work with Windows 2000. c. Before starting to work in ArcSDM, read "ArcSDM2 in ArcMap Overview" to gain an overview of what is different in ArcSDM from previous Arcview3 versions. There are many important differences in Spatial Analyst in ArcMap that required us to make major changes in ArcSDM. Note: During installation you may encounter a warning that the Setup wants to replace some file with an older version. Always answer that you want to keep your never version. Note: There is a known bug in ArcGIS 9.0 that causes an attribute in a table joined to a raster to improperly symbolize by the classification methods. This symbolization bug occurs when symbolizing the response theme from ArcSDM by posterior probability. To work around this bug, symbolize the response theme using the unique method or use the Create Raster tool in ArcSDM.
