Readme for Arc-SDM 3.1 (April 3, 2006) To install the Arc-SDM 3.1 extension, please read the installation section in the user’s manual, Arc-SDM3_1_Documentation.pdf. As explained in the documentation, it is necessary to install both the Documentation files and the Arc-SDM 3.1 extension in a particular way for the extension to work properly. There is a minor known problem in the Expert Weights of Evidence portion of the code that has to do with missing data. We expect to have this problems fixed in the next few weeks; so please check for a revised release of the extension. If you are installing Arc-SDM 3.1 on a Windows 2000 operating system, see the special instructions on the Arc-SDM for ArcGIS 9.0 site. Follow these instructions for a manual installation using the Arc-SDM 3.1 for ArcGIS 9.1 software. Alert! Some people are experiencing strange problems when they install ArcSDM 3.1. In some cases they are seeing a message saying there is a problem with Active X. This problem appears to come about two ways. The first is to be related to some problem during the installation of ArcGIS 9.1 or of the Service Pack 1 for ArcGIS 9.1. The second has to do with how ESRI starts ArcGIS. The first cause requires more work; so try the solution to the second cause first. For a problem caused by VBA not starting, note and do the following: ESRI, in an attempt to decrease startup time of ArcGIS9.x, does not initialize VBA until needed. Because ArcSDM needs VBA to open non-modal Analysis Parameters, it cannot start up. So, the user needs to get VBA running. 1. One approach that can work is as follows. The user can write and compile a macro. It does not need to work, but VBA should be initialized in the try. 2. A second approach to start VBA is as follows. There is a registry setting that ESRI recommends that a knowledgeable user or system administrator can set for each current user. See ESRI Knowledge Base Technical Article 26333. The solution that has worked most often is as follows. Reinstall the Service Pack and hopefully the problem will go away. Then if it continues, reinstall ArcGIS and the Service Pack.
