Trata-se de um projeto em in\u00edcio de desenvolvimento na Universidade de Idaho, denominado<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\" class=\"underline\"> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/deepsoilecotron.org\/#what-is\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deep Soil Ecotron<\/a><\/em><\/span>. Parcela significativa dos estudos sobre solos se concentra especialmente em seus primeiros 30 cent\u00edmetros, pois a\u00ed est\u00e1 o principal n\u00edvel com interesse para o desenvolvimento das diferentes atividades agr\u00edcolas. Abaixo disso, o solo \u00e9, comparativamente, muito menos conhecido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>O solo, al\u00e9m da sua por\u00e7\u00e3o superficial, \u00e9 cr\u00edtico para altera\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas, para a qualidade da \u00e1gua, manuten\u00e7\u00e3o dos ecossistemas e at\u00e9 para a produ\u00e7\u00e3o mineral. Mas o perfil de solo, como um todo, \u00e9 incrivelmente dif\u00edcil de estudar. Escavar uma trincheira sem perturbar sua estrutura e habitantes \u00e9 praticamente imposs\u00edvel. Quanto mais fundo se vai, mais dif\u00edcil \u00e9.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Para tentar solucionar estes problemas. A U.S. National Science Foundation ir\u00e1 financiar o Ecotron com um valor total de US$ 19 milh\u00f5es. O novo laborat\u00f3rio permitir\u00e1 aos pesquisadores manipular uma s\u00e9rie de fatores em colunas hermeticamente fechadas e controladas, incluindo temperatura, umidade e concentra\u00e7\u00f5es de di\u00f3xido de carbono (que influenciam o desgaste das rochas e a forma\u00e7\u00e3o do solo). Eles ser\u00e3o capazes de simular a ressurg\u00eancia das \u00e1guas subterr\u00e2neas e talvez at\u00e9 mesmo os ciclos de congelamento e descongelamento que podem acelerar o desenvolvimento do solo. Imagem: Reprodu\u00e7\u00e3o deepsoilecotron.org<\/sup><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Para Emma Aronson da Universidade da Calif\u00f3rnia, Riverside, um dos pontos chaves \u00e9 a possibilidade de estudar como o carbono no solo pode responder \u00e0s mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas futuras, simulando condi\u00e7\u00f5es de mudan\u00e7a com um grau de controle que nunca visto antes. Os proponentes do projeto acreditam que os solos profundos aque\u00e7am com o aquecimento da Terra, e experimentos de campo sugerem que isso pode fazer com que o solo libere carbono na atmosfera 30% a 50% mais r\u00e1pido do que hoje, afetando diretamente o ciclo de carbono.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>O laborat\u00f3rio estar\u00e1 pronto em 5 anos e ter\u00e1 capacidade para 24 colunas de solo, incluindo a vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o de cobertura. Uma empresa j\u00e1 est\u00e1 testando alternativas para a coleta em campo das colunas de at\u00e9 3 metros, desafio significativo pois esta ter\u00e1 que ser a menos perturbada poss\u00edvel. Mesmo assim haver\u00e1 perturba\u00e7\u00f5es, pois, ra\u00edzes ser\u00e3o cortadas e por\u00e7\u00f5es inferiores do solo ser\u00e3o expostas na superf\u00edcie. E claro, uma coluna em um laborat\u00f3rio n\u00e3o \u201cfuncionar\u00e1\u201d exatamente como um solo posicionado na paisagem.
