Researchers from the Laboratory for Studies on the Organization of Research and Innovation (Lab-GEOPI) at Unicamp will be speakers at the 30th-anniversary conference of the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST). The event will take place from March 17 to 20 in Stellenbosch, South Africa, and will bring together some of the leading laboratories investigating topics related to the research of research and innovation.
The event will feature two lectures by Geopi researchers. The first will be delivered by Professor Adriana Bin from the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FCA) and will focus on the topic: “Sustainable Development Goals in Research: What Are We Really Classifying?” This session aims to discuss the alignment between different scientific classification approaches related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will present as an example a study conducted by Geopi using data from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), which analyzed more than 41,000 research grants awarded between 2000 and 2017.
The second lecture will be given by Professor Sergio Salles-Filho from the Department of Science and Technology Policy (DPCT). Titled “A Long and Foggy Road: The Impact of Research Assessment on Public Policies,” the presentation will share findings from the Research on Research project, which examined the impact of FAPESP-funded research using the Overton database. In addition to the lecture, Salles-Filho will also chair a panel discussion titled: “On Metascience and Metascience Observatories.”
For the past two years, Geopi has led a FAPESP-funded project investigating various aspects of Brazilian research. Titled Research on Research and Innovation, the project analyzes factors such as funding impact, peer review evaluations, researcher trajectories, and the typology of Brazilian higher education and research institutions.
In addition to Geopi, the event will feature research laboratories affiliated with institutions such as Leiden University, University College London, George Washington University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Technical University of Berlin, Technical University of Munich, among others.
