Research on Research and Innovation Coordinates Working Group on International Cooperation in S&T at the 48th ANPOCS National Meeting

“International Policy and Networks of Scientific and Technological Cooperation” was the theme of the Working Group coordinated by researchers Ana Maria Carneiro, coordinator of Geopi and leader of Front 3 of the Research on Research and Innovation project, and Janaina Onuki, from the University of São Paulo (USP), at the 48th Annual Meeting of the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences (ANPOCS). The event, held from October 16 to 18 at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), brought together researchers to discuss the challenges and advancements in international relations within the scientific and technological context.

This marked the second year the Working Group was included in ANPOCS’s program. A total of 12 papers were presented by researchers from various fields, as explained by Ana Maria Carneiro: “It was a very interesting space because it did not previously exist at ANPOCS, and the discussion brought together professionals from diverse backgrounds, such as Sociology, International Relations, and Political Science,” she noted.

Throughout the three in-person sessions, topics such as the scientific diaspora, international diplomacy in S&T, science policy, and international cooperation were debated. “We had significant participation every day of the event, which underscores the importance of including this topic in the conference,” the researcher added.

The discussion included contributions from researchers affiliated with institutions such as the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), University of Brasília (UnB), Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in addition to USP and Unicamp.

The complete list of presented papers and their preprints is available on the ANPOCS meeting website. [Click here].

Research on Research and Innovation

In Research on Research and Innovation, the theme of international cooperation is investigated by Front 3, which analyzes the professional trajectories and mobility of Brazilian researchers. This initiative aims to develop methods and indicators to evaluate the outcomes and impact of national and international mobility and cooperation on the career paths and professional performance of researchers and academics.

In addition to Pesquisa da Pesquisa, the Laboratory for Research and Innovation Organization Studies (Geopi), responsible for the project, also conducts another related study titled The Contribution of the Brazilian Scientific Diaspora to the Country’s International Cooperation, coordinated by Ana Maria Carneiro. Both projects are funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp).
