“Research on Research and Innovation” participates in an international workshop in Stellenbosch, South Africa

Researchers involved in the “Research on Research and Innovation” project participated in an international workshop on Big Data analytics and Artificial Intelligence for Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) policies. The group convened at Stellenbosch University in South Africa from April 17th to 19th.

Researchers Sérgio Salles-Filho and Adriana Bin, coordinators of Fronts 1 and 2 of the “Research on Research and Innovation”, respectively, represented the project at the event. “This is closely related to ‘Research on Research and Innovation’ because we are doing precisely that: searching and structuring data to create information to understand the mechanisms by which research operates, so that we can make decisions on policies based on that,” explains researcher and coordinator of Front 2, Adriana Bin.

The initiative stemmed from international cooperation between the Laboratory of Studies on Research Organization and Innovation (Geopi) and the Innovation Systems, Strategies, and Policy project, both from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), based at the Institute of Geosciences; the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science, and Technology (CREST) at Stellenbosch University; and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

“It is essential to discuss data infrastructure so that we can obtain more evidence, design better policies, and provide more benefits to society,” highlights the general coordinator of Research on Research, Sergio Salles-Filho.
