EXECUTIVE COURSE

Prospecting, planning and decision support in Science, Technology and Innovation.

The course is offered annually (or in-company to be scheduled) to managers of public and private organizations, academics and futurists. We focus on methodological trends, main techniques and tools used in future studies, presenting cases and developing practical activities. We call it Foresight and Beyond because the content adds prioritization and decision support techniques applied to Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) activities. Participants must prepare during the course a prospective study setup based on a step-by-step template.

Target Audience

A multidisciplinary course for professionals from all areas of knowledge and involved in planning, management, and evaluation of ST&I strategies, policies, and programs.

Principal instructor

Sergio Salles-Son

Full Professor in the Department of Science and Technology Policy at the Institute of Geosciences, Unicamp, and founder of Lab-GEOPI. An agricultural engineer with a master's degree in Agricultural Sciences and a doctorate in Economics, he works in the areas of economics, planning and management of science, technology and innovation, with emphasis on prospective studies, policy evaluation and decision support. He was superintendent of FINEP, director of FCA and IG/Unicamp, visiting researcher at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research and deputy coordinator of evaluation at FAPESP. His career combines academic production, training of researchers and coordination of prospecting and strategic planning projects for organizations, funds, agencies and research and innovation programs.

Adriana Bin

Associate Professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Unicamp, associate coordinator of Lab-GEOPI and permanent faculty member of the postgraduate programs in Administration and in Science and Technology Policy at Unicamp. A food engineer, with a master's and doctorate in Science and Technology Policy, she completed postdoctoral studies at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research and Georgia Tech. She works on research and outreach projects focused on planning, management, evaluation, and forecasting in science, technology, and innovation.

Aníbal Azevedo

Associate Professor at Unicamp, with a background in Applied and Computational Mathematics and a PhD in Electrical Engineering. His work focuses on the development of mathematical models, optimization methods, and simulations applied to the planning, logistics, production, and operation of complex systems. His expertise contributes to quantitative approaches for decision support, strategic planning, and forecasting in science, technology, and innovation.

Bernardo Pereira Cabral

Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Economics of UFBA and works at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute of Fiocruz. He holds a PhD in Industrial and Technological Economics from UFRJ, completed postdoctoral studies at DPCT/Unicamp, and is a researcher at the Foresight Studies Center of Fiocruz. He works in studies of scientific and technological information mapping, Technology Foresight, innovation and technology transfer, also collaborating with Lab-GEOPI.

César Pereira

Collaborating researcher at NEPP and Lab-GEOPI at Unicamp. Holds a PhD in Information Science from USP, working in the area of Information Metrics Studies, with an emphasis on bibliometrics, scientometrics, patentometrics, and altmetrics applied to the monitoring and evaluation of scientific and technological information. His research focuses on science, technology and innovation, open science, future studies and trends, scientific collaboration, and scientific and technological information policies.

Fabio Gouveia

Fábio Castro Gouveia is a Public Health Technologist at Fiocruz, seconded to IBICT, where he works in the Institutional Monitoring Division. He holds a PhD in Biological Chemistry, leads the Scimetrics group, is a CNPq productivity fellow, and a permanent faculty member of the Postgraduate Program in Information Science at IBICT. He conducts research in information metrics studies, scientometrics, altmetrics, S&T indicators, digital methods, data science, and artificial intelligence.

Jesús Mena-Chalco

Professor and PhD at UFABC, faculty member of the Postgraduate Program in Computer Science and researcher in the areas of Computer Science and Information Science. His work focuses on pattern recognition, graph mining, and academic data mining, with an emphasis on bibliometrics, scientometrics, and knowledge discovery in large volumes of data. He develops impact assessment projects in partnership with Lab-GEOPI.

Leonardo Tomazeli Duarte

Leonardo Tomazeli Duarte is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Unicamp, holds a post-doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, and a doctorate from Grenoble INP/Université Grenoble Alpes. He works in the areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, signal processing, and multi-criteria decision support, with relevant contributions to analytical methods applied to prospecting, planning, and decision-making in science, technology, and innovation.

Vinicius Muraro

Vinicius Muraro holds a PhD in Science and Technology Policy and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Unicamp. He has experience in innovation strategies, Technology Foresight, big data, and machine learning, with research focused on the conceptual and methodological impacts of these tools in future studies and foresight. He was an associate researcher at Lab-GEOPI and the InSySPo project, working on planning, evaluation, and prospecting projects in Science, Technology & Innovation.

2026 Edition

Course aimed at training professionals from various areas in the concepts, methods and practices of prospecting, prioritization and decision support in science, technology and innovation (ST&I) activities.

Fundamentals and frontiers of prospecting, prioritization and decision support in public and private investments in research, development and innovation are addressed by professionals with several years of experience in Brazil and abroad.

National and foreign professors take turns bringing to the participants an intensive and updated course on how to act in the prospection in ST&I and in the prioritization of IDP, including decision support tools.
